“Hey! Thanks, this helped me a lot! Actually, I am researching on freelance php projects sites from past 5-6 days but I wasn’t able to find any website or company which allows us to post free projects and providing working market place for buyers and programmers, I found some sites which allowed free posting of php and other IT projects for free and number of bids started coming in from vendors but proposals weren’t so good, so is there any site you know which allows to make me post free projects and containing thousands of quality vendors and programmers to bid on my project? Please email me!”

This is crap.
Suite101 is a mill. It doesn’t pay to write for this site, as your pay is based on page views. You can get paid, at minimum, $50 per article elsewhere, whereas Suite101 pays you only after you have “earned” $10..and that’s total, for all your articles! You don’t earn $10 until you get at least 2,000 views of an article. That’s robbery.
This writer probably shills for Suite101.
Stick to getting your wortlh as writer. Write for a flat fee, per article (never under $50 per), or write based on the word (.25cents, or more per word).
Anything less, like Suite101, is akin to giving your talent, and work, away for free.
Don’t do it.

Angela, If you would like to write a review with a different view I will post it. This site is to help writers make informed decisions. You get your byline but I only pay ten bucks for the review. But it sounds like you would give a great other point if view that would help writers.

Just a note to everyone. The review on Suite101 was to demonstrate how you can get articles and content published for free to help build a portfolio. As I indicated in the review, it is not intended as a way to make a lot of money. It is simply one more way to gain exposure and build credibility over time. Sites like Suite 101 give writers an opportunity to refine skills, make new contacts, and expand their scope of marketing. I hope that helps clarify the purpose of submitting articles to Suite 101.

I was suspect of Suite101 when it didn’t give any real information about what you can expect to be paid for your articles in spite of a pretty detailed application to get approved as one of their writers. Thanks Angela for your input. I’ll consider your post as confirming my suspicion.
If the purpose of submitting articles to Suite 101 is primarily “an opportunity to refine skills, make new contacts, and expand their scope of marketing,” then they shouldn’t allude to all the money you can make as part of their pitch to get writers.
At least the writer of the above review gives the honest indication that the compensation will be peanuts by saying, “it’s fun to watch the pennies grow!” So again, I appreciate that the reviewer is not pitching the monetary remuneration as the focus.

No offense to Zoe or your editor, but I believe there is a mistake in the first sentence of the second paragraph. Shouldn’t it read…”take some time”? Just thought I’d throw that out there. Hope it’s helpful.

$50.00 for an article? Try 10 times that amount with a good site that draws traffic. The purpose of writing for a publication like Suite 101 is to grow passive income; and yes, you can do just that.
Digital content writing involves a good understanding of what information people want and how search engines will present that information to them.
There are ways to conduct that research and while its not a secret, you’ll have to learn that for yourself.
If you learn to marry the two concepts, you will never want to write another digital content article for a flat fee. Even at $150.00 per article, you leave money on the table and potentially a lot of it.
Consider the amount of social networking sites alone where you can link the article for free. Once you build a global network of contacts and a dedicated readership – it goes viral from there. Advertisers take notice and will contact you directly.
If you know what you are doing and how to do it, you will make a ton of money. I went from $60.00 my first month, and now, month eight, at $2,400 per month and growing. Each month, my income grows on average, $350.00 per month. That is a 4000% growth over eight months. Where the heck can you get that type of return for your investment? To boot, right now, I only write for two publications and only on a per-revenue basis.
You do the math and see where I will be two years from now, even if the rate of growth slows to just 200%. If you approach digital content writing like a business and run it just like a business – you will win. If you don’t, you will slug away for $50.00 per article and then – it’s feast or famine.
I prefer to deal with the famine upfront – get it out of the way – so I can have a feast everyday for the rest of my life! Now that’s a proposition that makes sense.

To Cameron Butler- I was suspicious of this too. So much so that the day after I got accepted as a writer (by automatic response only, not personally written) I asked for my membership to be terminated. I see little reward in writing for a company which doesn’t reward it’s capable writers generously enough. The prime focus is generating traffic for their site and advertisements, not too boost your skills as a talented writer. Like Zoe says, if you want free advice and tutorials, a little pocket money (to watch the amount accumulate) and get your name out there in some form, then do it. But as a serious, passionate and dedicated writer I feel Suite 101 is a waste of time. Don’t make the mistake of putting your heart, soul & time into a site that offers little incentive. Start by writing cover letters to substantial, reputable publications and pitch a flat rate or fee per word. You can still choose your material. And although alot of publications take their time in paying you, $100 for two articles is a sweet payoff, especially if you already have a job and are doing this in your spare time.
Good luck!

Articles are examined firstly based on the information contained. When the viewer doesn’t find their needs conveyed, that article proved its marketing inefficiency .

I co-sign #8, Kenneth.
I’m new to Suite and other content sites. For a long time I agreed with those who disdained those sources. I wanted the big fish.
But watching my pennies turn into dimes and quarters along with my content index is encouraging.
