Where the Best Articles Rise to the Top
Another Writer Wrangler Review By Zoe Day
There are lots of resources on the Internet for accomplished and aspiring writers. Sometimes, it helps to write for multiple sites simply to gain the experience for creating articles that are search engine optimized (SEO) and expanding your audience reach. Of course, Writer Wrangler is one of our favorite resources when it comes to creating compelling content for a wide variety of audiences. In a previous post, we also discussed Suite101 where writers can write in dozens of different subject categories and receive a by-line for their work.
A similar site is Helium where freelance writers can write articles and share them with millions of readers across the Internet. It’s a free website that offers the opportunity to create articles and earn cash at the same time. And also like Suite101, Helium is not going to make you rich overnight – but your articles could be recognized by publishers and others seeking writers for online and offline content. You could end up finding a lucrative freelance position if your articles are well-written.

Helium website supports a daily revenue sharing program that is based on how often your articles are accessed and read. In addition to the revenue sharing plan, they also offer ongoing writing contests. Competing with other serious freelance writers is a good way to sharpen your writing skills and learn more about what publishers are seeking. If you’re creating your portfolio, Helium is a good place to start. It will help you jump-start and promote your writing career, while learning at the same time. They offer categories such as Arts & Humanities, Business, Entertainment, Law & Legal Information, Pets & Animals, and many more. You can write in a familiar category, or research new topics and categories to expand your knowledge base.
One of the newest features is the Citizen Journalism Award which offers various titles, guidelines, timelines, and prize structures. These are topics that are hot buttons for publishers and they are looking for high quality, dependable writers. The articles require top quality research and each essay contest has different guidelines. Some of the participating Helium partners searching for content include the OpenSecret.org and The PETA group, among others.
The Helium writer’s resource is an open platform for freelancer recognition and reward. The site’s success is heavily dependent on the quality and quantity of effort that goes into the creation of unique, compelling articles and content. The goal is for writer’s to create articles that are worthy of publication online or in offline magazines. All articles are rated by the community of freelancers and writers, and the best articles on Helium rise to the top as the #1 rated articles in their category.
One fun and interesting feature of Helium is each writer’s ability to critique and evaluate articles created and written by fellow freelancers. There is a structured rating system and you also have the capability to provide feedback and comments directly to the writers. In addition, it is a safety check where serious writer’s can flag inappropriate content for editorial review and action if needed. This helps keep the site focused on high quality, professional content.
Reviewing the site’s writing standards is the best way to get started. If you’re serious about freelance writing and expanding the audience you reach, then you’ll want to check out Helium.com. It’s a website that has writers and publishers writing and talking.

This is a really cool site. Do the writers actually review this stuff or do you just do reviews to get money for ads? I mean are these actually honest? Or do you put a nice nice spin on them to get advertising money? I am so sick of that.!

Babbet, Are you a writer? You are welcome to submit a review for a website. Use support at writerwrangler.com and I will read it over and if your review is helpful to writers in anyway then I will post it on the blog with your byline. Only honest reviews are posted. The writers put their name on these and they are not only advertising fodder. Welcome to the rare honest part of the internet!

I have done articles for Today blogs, but it is not much when it comes to making money. I am mostly concerned with getting to write. I love to write, but never get to the places I want as the ones I have been with in fandom contain people who are immature and sometimes bring a lot of wank to the table.
I will look over your site some more and I may write about it at my own site, Blondish.net. I usually write reviews and general information about tech-type sites, but because I post my literature there, I like to throw in some writing-based articles too for that crowd that visits.

Blondish.net sounds interesting I will have to visit
I have a lot of writers but they do not post very often.
I find writers like to get paid to write..it is refreshing to find someone that writes because they love it.

I met Corena by writing an article on Helium.com, so from my perspective, it’s a great way to network and expand marketing reach for writers. You gain experience by writing on these sites and make connections that can prove to be valuable over time. Good writers are always networking and building a reputation with every article, Ebook or other content they write. Best of luck to all aspiring and well-established writers!

As a professional writer and journalist for than 20 years I have to say that Suite101 is only any use if you’re just starting out, you want to get some professional experience and you don’t care about how much you get paid.
I’ve never seen such low rates and such little return for so much effort. However long you’ve been writing, my advice is to concentrate on proper newspapers and magazines to get paid properly and to develop your reputation. Don’t go anywhere near Suite101 – unless you’re desperate, that is.
